Welling Family Reunion 2008

We just got back from our Annual Welling Family Reunion!! We had a lot of fun!! Did some different things than past years & really enjoyed ourselves!! Lots of Pictures - so I will put them in a slide show at the bottom.

Lots of food always tops the charts! I think we had 5 watermelons! Yummy! We fished at the pond & some at the river, then at the reservoir. (All the little kids got fish) Of course they were cooked up with steaks & made a delicious meal the last night.

The kids loved riding their bikes & 4 wheelers. Went to the shooting range & shot guns.

Don't faint the 1st night - Lorrie, LesLee, & I went on a 3.2 mile walk while Bret & the kids went fishing at the river, & Dave enjoyed taking different family members & looking for wildlife. They claim they saw a bull moose the 1st night... the 2nd night he was sure to take the camera & only saw deer!! But they enjoyed seeing some different birds & such.

We went to the reservoir & rode in the canoes. Madison was the swimmer! My sister LesLee & her husband Wynn had picked up a new (to them) fishing boat & they had fun giving rides around & letting the pre-teens drive while their parents weren't watching!

There was a fun water balloon fight (Thanks Tam & Josh for bringing that fun activity!) It broke out in a simple "fun" water fight... & led to a much bigger event than the little kids had ever dreamed of!! Poor Lorrie was so wet that she spent the rest of the reunion figuring out how she would get Dave back!! Well, in the end she did it!! Look for the photo where Dave is laying on a 4-wheeler looking into the sky (Very peaceful picture)!! Seconds later we had all gone off to have the kids end the 4th of July with a Pinata & as I was taking pictures - out of the corner of my eye I see water flying & Lorrie took a bucket of water & poured it all over Dave while he was laying there!! She said - she didn't realize that Dave could run so fast!! Well - now the game is on!! Who knows who will get wet next!! But I am sure Lorrie better sleep with her eyes 1/2 open (which isn't hard for our family!) :)

There was a BIG baseball game!! LesLee had brought baseball bats that each of the kids got to decorate their own... then off to the game! This was a hoot!! I have never see such sights as I had here! It looked like all the dads were against Grandpa & the grandkids!! There were wedgies as dads ran home & didn't want to get tagged by the ball/nor their kids, there were 3rd basemen carried home, there were 2 balls flying at the batter at the same time. There were wrestling matches on home base! There were sticks instead of bats at times, there were kids in dirt, there were low pitches, high - HIGH pitches, there were run for your life hits, one thing we kept laughing at was that all the Huffakers... couldn't remember to put the bat down after they were done hitting... so watch out they might bat their way to 1st base if you weren't careful!! It was a hoot!! Check out the fun pics.!

LesLee had lots of crafts & fun activities for the kids to do while they were hanging out. Lorrie planned a treasure hunt & the kids had fun with that!! We played games, we had a campfire & roasted marshmallows & sang songs.

We had a beauty salon for a couple hours & Lorrie did a make over on me & then did all the other girls hair!

Of course the older boys (10 - 12) run the 4 wheelers 24/7 & I think Tyler ran out of gas 2 or 3 times & had to hitch hike back to get gas several times!! We are grateful he didn't get lost!

The 2 babies (Brin & Daxton) that weren't born last year - had a blast this year discovering all the new things available to them & they just loved scooting around in their walkers!! All of the little kids got terribly dirty & even had they been bathed 3 times a day - it wouldn't have helped... they got dirty just sitting!! You will see that by the many dirty mug shots I got of many of them.

Then the middle age kids (3-7) just constantly ran - this bunch never needs help finding things to do - they are very creative & always were on the move from the swings to the basket ball courts, to the cabins, to the food!!

It was a good time!! We missed several family members who were sick & lived far away, etc... we had a much smaller group this year - but none the less we still had a blast!!
