California has been great thus far. We flew out at 11:30 A.M. from SLC on a Delta CRJ 900. The flight was good-about an 1 hour and 30 minutes or so long. We missed our first landing attempt, which was fun as we were then able to go around and fly a bit over the ocean and see some more of the surrounding area. Once we landed in San Diego, we claimed our bag and boarded an Alamo Bus. We rented a nice red Chrysler Town and Country to drive in for the next few days. Madi and Brady really admire the van, it is kinda funny! We tried to check into our suite, but they weren't ready for us yet, so we went cruising around San Diego. We ate lunch at a neat little "beach mex", the equivalent of Hawaiian-Mexican-Tropical mixes, restaurant called Rubio's and it was quite delicious.
Now full of unique food, we set out to investigate some local sights. We drove around the San Diego Temple; it was so beautiful, but we didn't stay long, with leadfoot Dad driving. Within hours, he was cutting people off, burning up brakes, and smashing the gas like the best of the Californian Interstate Drivers. :) We drove past some beaches and parks, then eventually made our way back to our hotel.
We are staying in a suite for three days. It is very nice and consists of 2 bedrooms, a sitting room, a small kitchen/dining room, with 2 bathrooms, and 3 TVs-ha ha ha! We sat around here for a few hours unwinding and watching TV while mom ventured to the local Walmart, one of her natural environments, to acquire some food for the next few days.
Upon her return, we unloaded the piles of food, then went to the beach for a dinner picnic. The sun was going down when we arrived, so there wasn't much to do, but, being us, we wouldn't go down without a fight! In between snacking and eating, we were playing frisbee, taking pictures, finding "scallops" (in the words of Brady) and seashells, playing at the park, and playing tag in the sand. It was quite fun and a good ending to our first day in California.
Not much happened after the beach, we pretty much went back to the hotel and got ready for bed!
